Case Study

Customer demand

This customer is a consumer goods company with a fast-moving product line. Its warehouse has to process thousands of items in stock and numerous incoming orders every day. Traditional merchandise sortation is not very efficient and prone to errors. The customer decided to improve delivery efficiency by using AI+3D vision-guided robots from Mech-Mind.

Challenges

  • Enormously wide range of articles
  • It must be ensured that the robot can remove all items from the container, even if they are in corners or on the edges
  • Other processes such as the warehouse management system must be connected

The Mech-Mind Solution

The Mech-Eye 3D camera creates an image of the filled container. Then, the 3D vision system guides the robot to take the items out of the bins one by one and place them on the scanner table to check the product specifications and order information. After scanning, the dual-axis gripper arm places the goods on the appropriate shelf.

  • The Mech-Mind 3D vision system can handle a variety of goods, including boxes, bags, bottles, transparent packaging and goods with small sizes and irregular shapes;
  • Model-free sortation enables fast detection of new SKUs and facilitates deployment;
  • Advanced 3D vision system can identify chaotically stacked and overlapping items;
  • Angle-adjustable end effector can pick parts in all positions, including parts near a bin wall;
  • Picking success rate is up to 100% with bin vibration system;
  • Mech-Mind's 3D vision system works with various connected logistics systems such as the warehouse management system, code scanners and pick-to-light (PTL) systems.

Results

1. the Mech-Mind solution can handle various complicated scenarios with significantly improved stability.

2. a single workstation can process over 1200 items.
