Case Study

Customer demand

This customer is a large chemical plant. The traditional depalletizing of sacks was done manually. There are also a large number of sacks of different types and sizes, which further affects efficiency. The customer decided to depalletize sacks with industrial robots and 3D vision to improve production efficiency. The 3D vision-guided robot picks up the appropriate number of sacks according to the batch requirements and place them in the sack breaker for emptying.

Challenges

  • The sacks differ in type and size
  • The number of sacks to be picked up varies from batch to batch.
  • The system must cooperate with the following autonomous process steps (opening of the sacks)

The Mech-Mind solution

Mech-Mind's 3D camera identifies and locates the individual sacks on the pallet. Then, the Mech-Mind system guides the robot in picking up the individual sacks and coordinates the system with downstream processes.

  • The Mech-Mind 3D vision solution can identify a variety of sacks and easily handle complicated situations such as wrinkles, deformations and unknown patterns.
  • The 3D vision system is connected to the sack breaker and other downstream processes. This ensures that the entire work cycle meets the time requirements.
  • The efficiency of the 3D vision-guided depalletizing perfectly meets the customer's needs in terms of high speed and lower labor costs.
  • The workstation can now operate stably around the clock without manual intervention.

Results

The 3D vision system can handle various complex situations - the stability and flexibility are greatly improved;

Mech-Mind solution significantly reduces labor cost, while cycle time and stability meet the customer's requirements.
